Perfect justice requires the ability to really know the minds of the people involved. Since humans do not have this ability, we often impose a punishment that is either too harsh, too lenient, or just not effective. I agree that there can't be a blanket rule that is truly fair and just and doesn't have any exceptions.

How to punish the WT over the WWC act situation
by Aussie Oz intalking about this case the other day, she came up with the thought that would it not be good if they are found guilty that a public apology for disobeying the law etc had to be printed in the public edition of the watchtower magazine.. now that would be better even that a massive fine i reckon!.

*** g84 5/22 pp. 19-20 What About Music Videos? ***
“I Would Never Do It Again!”
In another popular video, Thriller, the performer is seen to transform first into a “cat person,” then a dancing “monster.” Evidently not wanting viewers to conclude that it promoted spiritism, the film begins with the disclaimer: “Due to my strong personal convictions, I wish to stress that this film in no way endorses a belief in the occult.—Michael Jackson.” Nevertheless, it was so realistic that some who saw it admitted that they were horrified at first. What was this short film intended to convey? And how does the performer, Michael Jackson, feel about it in looking back?
“I would never do it again!” says Jackson. “I just intended to do a good, fun short film, not to purposely bring to the screen something to scare people or to do anything bad. I want to do what’s right. I would never do anything like that again.” Why not? “Because a lot of people were offended by it,” explains Jackson. “That makes me feel bad. I don’t want them to feel that way. I realize now that it wasn’t a good idea. I’ll never do a video like that again!” He continues: “In fact, I have blocked further distribution of the film over which I have control, including its release in some other countries. There’s all kinds of promotional stuff being proposed on Thriller. But I tell them, ‘No, no, no. I don’t want to do anything on Thriller. No more Thriller.’”
I don't know whether this really counts as a public apology. It sounds like it was taken from another source, not a direct interview between Michael Jackson and the Awake writer.

It's funny isn't it? Years ago, my husband wanted to start going to church again so we went with some friends to the local First Christian church. In our town, it's the church that most of the upper crust attend, and it is quite large - maybe 400 members or so. We were never made to feel welcome, never really met anyone there. The preacher never showed any interest in us even though we attended several times. But when we started studying with the dubs, and then went to the hall, we were everybody's new best friend. In retrospect, it was love bombing and of course it ended as soon as we got baptized. Now, the last time I attended a meeting at the hall, I might as well have been invisible.

Star Trek - the Borg
by finally awake init just occurred to me that we use the term "borg" when talking about the organization.
it's a cute play on words, but i wonder if the writers of star trek who came up with the idea of the borg had some experience or connection with witnesses.

Conquering A JW Fear
by EmptyInside ini'm watching a creepy movie.
in my jw days,i would label it demonized.
don't ask me how a movie can be demonized, but it can.. but,i must confess,i am still superstitious about such things.

I saw the Exorcist years ago before I joined the Borg. It was pretty creepy, I don't think I want to see it again. I just don't have any interest in slasher/horror tyoe movies anymore. I prefer raunchy comedies aimed at teenage boys. Harold & Kumar, American Pie - that sort of thing.

Wedding gifts
by usualusername inwhat weird things have jws asked for as wedding gifts?.

I think it's a bit of a cultural thing. When I got married 20 years ago, some people gave us practical things like small appliances and towels, and some people gave us "heirloom" type things like picture frames and crystal pieces. We had both been living on our own, so we already had a lot of the basic household things. My father and step mother paid for the bulk of our honeymoon. Out of all the gifts, the honeymoon is the only thing that still holds any value for us. All the material gifts are long since worn out, broken, or stuck in a cabinet and forgotten, but I still remember that trip to Disney World.

Shy JW at the door ... the pain of it
by MrMonroe insomeone tweeted today: "a jehovah's witness who is shy to people at the door.
those few words paint such a sad picture.
how many jws with little self-esteem and self-confidence, particularly born-ins who have never known anything different, are sent out into neighbourhoods to knock on the doors of strangers and speak to them, knowing the householder resents them being there?

I'm not shy, but it was still torture for me.

Do you ever "out" yourself?
by exjehovah inin the 22 years since i have left the jw religion, i have come across some precarious situations that i wanted to share and hear how other people handle it.
for the record i forced the hand of the jw and they df'd me.
i didn't care and i still don't, except for the family thing.

I change job sites every few days, and I rarely repeat a location, so I am exposed to a lot of different people. Once in a while I come across a witness either as an employee of the place I'm working, or someone working business territory in field service. I've outed myself a few times, when I was feeling gung-ho, and I've stayed undercover when I was feeling really uncomfortable about it. In the future, I'll probably just avoid the subject unless I already know the person.
